❓Why do I sing?❓

Why do I sing?❓

6 year old Vanya periodically asks me a seemingly #simple yet very #difficult #question: “Sasha, why do you like #singing?”.

It got me #thinking. Indeed, #WHY? What it is about it that makes me like it? When did this start and when and why would I ever tire of singing?

I thought this #excellent #question deserves some deep #reflection on my part. So, I will try to summarise it in the three #reasons below.

1️⃣ #IMPACT ✊🏼
💖 I #love the #feeling of impacting people’s lives in some ways. Like the old Indian couple dancing away to my music, seeing teared up eyes when I sang a Turkish song to a Turkish listener, or someone just coming up to me saying a song made their day!

😡 I #hate the feeling I get when people just don’t bother and treat you as if you’re some free piece of furniture standing there to #entertain them. Or when they take a video of you performing without even acknowledging you with a simple thank you, a nod or a smile. But I #forgive these people. In the end they may just be too shy..

2️⃣ #CHALLENGE 🧗🏼‍♂️
Each time I sing a song, it presents multiple challenges. Will I be able to sing it all on key, how much of the lyrics I can sing from memory, will my voice have the capacity to sing a song on a given day? In addition, how much of the emotion can I convey through my performance?

3️⃣ #SOUL 👼🏼
🎙 Singing like any #artistic #expression like 👨🏼‍🎨#painting, 💃🏽 #dancing, you name it is great for your #body and #soul!

🕉 Just yesterday, I found out in my #yoga class that out of the seven #chakras, throat or #vishuddhi is one of them. However, to say that singing only affects one of them would be a huge #understatement. In fact, when we sing we employ all of our body and internal organs from diaphragm when breathing to head and chest resonators to produce #sound!
